Project: Apple G4 Cube

Welcome to my first Tech Blog.

Just going to let you all know about my little project that I have started up for the vintage PowerMac G4 Cube.

Placed my order for one couple of days ago from a US site and should hopefully arrive soon!

Specs are:
450MHz PowerPC G4 Cube processor (CPU) with the AltiVec “Velocity Engine” vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache
448 megabytes (MB) of Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM), maximum of 1536 MB
20GB Ultra ATA hard drive
ATI Rage128Pro (AGP 2X) video card with 16MB of on-board memory and ADC and VGA connectors
Apple slot-loading 6X DVD-ROM, 24X CD-ROM drive
Two built-in standard 6-pin FireWire connectors
Two Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type A ports
RJ-45 Ethernet connector for 10Base-T and 100Base-TX
Modem connector with K56Flex and V.90 data communications standard
108-key Apple Pro Keyboard (Black Keys)
Black & Clear Apple Pro optical mouse
Power Supply Unit
Apple USB Speakers made by Harman Kardon specifically for the Power Mac G4 Cube that include a digital amplifier module with headphone jack

I’ve also ordered a Radeon 7500 to go with it just to increase the graphics power of this little 8″ cube a bit more.

Can’t wait to get my hands on it. The machine was originally released in 2000 but was quickly discontinued selling about 160,000 units. It seems back then people didn’t like the idea of the cube. However I think Apple were just ahead of their time. SFF machines have taken of over the past few years and people love them!

If you’ve not seen one of these before then I suggest you check out my Flickr site as I’ve posted some pics of this masterpiece.
